A touching story with a moral that combines the fairytale world of Isaak Bashevis Singer with the sound of wind instruments. Experience an extraordinary journey through humorous and mysterious stories inspired by Jewish culture!
“Horrible Gospoda” continues the series “Wind Stories”, which began in 2024, whose premise is to combine storytelling with classical music performed mainly by the wind instrument section. The two soloists play wandering bajars, somewhat reminiscent of Jewish “maggids” (storytellers), and a little “badchen” (wedding clowns, often presenting with klezmer bands), performing with a troupe that also includes musicians and dancers. Snut in this way, the story is based on “Children's Stories” by Isaac Bashevis Singer and takes the form of a box story, in which the narrative frame is formed by the story “The Scary Mistress”. The selection of stories presents different themes in the work of the Nobel laureate for children: humorous (“About the Wise Men of Chełm and the Stupid Carp”), sentimental (“The Golden Goat”), philosophical (“How Szlemiel wandered to Warsaw”), and even metaphysical horror for the youngest (titled “Scary gentlemen”). All of them are immersed in the folk current of Jewish, Ashkenazi culture, often present also in the “adult” prose of the writer. The strength of the performance is the music of Andrei Yakushau, in which the composer managed to capture the atmosphere of pre-war Poland, delighting with the richness of different cultures and the unique color of local communities.
A performance of a family nature, designed for older children (7-12 years old) and adults.
The play uses a Polish translation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's “Stories for Children” by Andrzej Polkowski.
