Natural stories — the opening of the exhibition of Marta Ipczyńska and Marta Rosenthal with music by Waldemar Knade

(the exhibition will last until 30.112026)

The title of the exhibition “Natural Stories” brings to mind the spirit of ancient times, when knowledge was acquired by methods bordering on science and obsessive fascination. In the dusty chambers of singularity, discoveries were catalogued through handwritten drawings, engravings and herbarium, in which order mingled with chaos, and documenting reality became a form of storytelling — also the visual one. Marta Ipczyńska and Marta Rosenthal in a certain sense fit perfectly into this image of retro-scientists, although their chambers of singularity exist primarily in the sphere of artistic experiences and imagination.

Marta Ipczyńska, inspired by fossils seen in museums, developed a special sensitivity to structures that we usually ignore — in the waste of nature she sees not their end, but a form written in matter, ready to be read anew. It is they that become for her the starting point for creating, among other things, posthuman images of fantastic animals. Its medium — traditional workshop graphics — hardly evokes associations with old archives, atlases and natural engravings.

Marta Rosenthal also has her own “cabinet”, which creates works combining elements of drawing, painting, photography, collage and assemblage. The contents of this cabinet are, among other things, microfragments of the organic world: shreds and structures of decaying plants, dried flower petals and seeds, which the artist uses as carriers of memory and symbolic meanings, sometimes associated with specific places and people. What is organic is often juxtaposed with ordered geometric structures. In this way, he talks about the relationship of man with nature, about the processes of penetration, passing and disappearing - a continuous, cyclical change.
