When the track opened in 1907, it was primarily for the sake of the many factories along Amager's east coast - passenger transport was a biter.
Especially the Amager peasants were delighted with it, but with the daily transport of latrine from the capital to the “shit-island”, the Amager railway among the street boys and other childish souls was of course quickly dubbed the shit-track or latrine circuit.
The lecture is based on a large collection of images from Amagerbanen's daily life, reports and archival studies.
Niels Jensen has a past as an intelligence officer in the Danish Defence Force — and has worked as a daily newspaper reporter and writer for more than 40 years.
The Practical History Club På Amager is run jointly by Kvarterhuset, Islands Brygge Bibliotek and Sundby Library.
We call ourselves a club, but everyone is welcome and the arrangements are publicly available.
