About the event

Expand your mathematical horizons in this hands-on interactive workshop with some satisfyingly simple solutions to perplexing problems!

Rediscover your childhood wonder as you explore how to bring complex expressions back into a simple, practical understanding using everyday objects and ideas. Get the toys out and join the journey to discover how to bring mathematical expressions to life and discover the building blocks of this most abstract of subjects. For years you’ve been learning to move away from Lego blocks and Cuisenaire rods and into algebra as a means to handle the mathematical world. It’s now time to reverse the journey and see how to tackle some surprising connections with the simplicity of children’s toys.

Playing with Proof explores the links between geometry and algebra, systematic working and how abstract writing can be demonstrated in the physical world. This session is ideal for those studying Maths at school but needing something to spark it into life!

For children who are in Years 7, 8 or 9 this term. This typically corresponds to children aged around 11–14 years old. We reserve the right to refund or deny entry to those who are not in the correct year group.

Refunds can only be issued for tickets cancelled at least two weeks (14 calendar days) in advance of the event date. Please note that this supersedes our normal event terms and conditions. Please also note that Eventbrite adds a small booking fee to the amount paid for each ticket option.
