Homesick for Another World

Based on Mei Liu's three years of artistic research, the lecture performance Homesick for Another World takes the audience into the dark, vast and unmappable world of lucid dreaming. In the semi-fictional story Lius, the dream state emerges as a reaction to oppressive political systems, physical imprisonment, various forms of immobility, and the desire for freedom. Using various characters and stories, the lecture performance crosses a range of worlds, interweaving dreams, dark socio-political realities, cognitive neurology, and Daoist inner cosmologies. Liu asks how loneliness and despair can open up alternative worlds of imagination for solidarity and resistance.
