Beethoven expanded the reach of music and changed the role of musicians in society — forever. 2027 marks the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death across Europe, and tonight you can experience his landmark Symphony No. 3 — more powerful, longer and more poignant than any previous work, and a piece of music that embodies ideas of heroism, freedom, endurance and willpower.

One of the DR Symphony Orchestra's highly esteemed guest conductors, the Viennese conductor Manfred Honeck, returns to Copenhagen to conduct Beethoven's Eroica in this concert, side by side with Estonian composer Jüri Reinvere's tribute to Beethoven, inspired by one of the last phrases the composer wrote in his notebook before his death in 1827.

Award-winning pianist Bruce Liu finally makes his debut with the DR Symphony Orchestra in Rakhmaninov's Rhapsodi over a theme by Paganini -- a work which combines virtuosity and romantic poetry, with everything from dramatic intensity to lyrical fervor.

Known for interpreting the variations with both technical certainty and deep emotional insight, Liu has performed with a number of the world's leading orchestras, so there is reason to look forward to his first encounter with the DR Symphony Orchestra and master conductor Honeck.

After the concert you can linger in the foyer for a half-hour 'Extranummer', where you can get closer to the musicians of the DR Symphony Orchestra and experience them playing together in more intimate settings. For the 'Extranummer', the bar is open, the lights are dimmed and the musicians themselves have composed the programme and talk about the music. The 'Extranummer' takes place in the lobby of DR Koncerthuset and is included in the concert ticket.
