Since their founding in 2000, Hot Chip have released eight albums and developed a sound between synth-pop, alternative and house that stands out with an unparalleled harmony. Four years after the release of their latest album, the band from London is now back with the announcement of their ninth studio album “A Long Way From Kansas” and an accompanying tour, on which the band will present their new album 2027 live. On Friday, February 26, 2027, Hot Chip will be shown live at Berlin's Astra with new songs in their luggage. In doing so, the Londoners promise a show that is more gloomy, ecstatic, abstract, noisier, stranger and better than ever before and clearly shows that Hot Chip knows the way home from Kansas.
About the event
Since the beginning of their careers, Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Owen Clarke, Al Doyle and Felix Martin have channeled both love and harmony through their art and have reached the hearts of their audiences worldwide with their music. This resulted in the albums “Coming on Strong” (2004), “The Warning” (2006), “Made in the Dark” (2008), “One Life Stand” (2010) and “In Our Heads” (2012), which released Hot Chip every two years. After “Why Make Sense? “(2015), it took four years until “A Bath Full of Ecstasy” was released in 2019. Four more years after “Freakout/Release” (2022), the band is now back with their ninth album, which will be released at the beginning of 2027. “A Long Way From Kansas” shows Hot Chip from her most personal side to date. While the opener “Stuck Record” reflects Alexis Taylor's place in life with lively melodies and bubbling rhythms, loops and torn notes clash on the eponymous track “Kansas”. From the energetic focus track “Waiting Around”, which is reminiscent of a moshpit-compatible version of “Over and Over” (2006), to Beth Ditto's feature on the song “Me In Your Head” to the lead single “Random Violence,” which contrasts Joe and Alexis's voices in a majestic homage to Keith McIvor from Optimo, each track changes in its own unique way and way in the context of the album. Shaped by wars, deaths, climate catastrophe and the gloom of modern life, the album finds its own way of celebrating life despite all circumstances. In the midst of all the darkness and distortions of life, Hot Chip value an aspect that they know better than anyone else around them: music that is permeated by a heavenly melody — through the instruments in the studio and the interplay of their respective voices, which harmonize lovingly in beat and sound.
