Hot Spot

Agnieszka Smoczyńska returns to genre cinema with the energy and fantasy of the cult “Daughters of Dancing”! In the (not) distant future, ruled by artificial intelligence, a detective with many faces and at least an original style is commissioned to investigate a murder. However, this will only be the starting point for a series of strange events that will shake the new world order. The system is unstable. The temperature is rising. Will his sense of duty and service win over his wild, dormant nature...?

“Hot Spot” is a futuristic sci-fi thriller that melts the senses, mixes in the head and leaves no one indifferent. Embark on a journey to a place where the 80s mingle with a disturbing vision of the future and a pinch of technological magic, all with a grain of salt and typical of the director's conscious playfulness of kitsch, satire and reflection. “Hot Spot” is the second international film in the director's career. In the main role we will see Andrzej Konopka, who with distance and humor plays the character of a stylish detective in an identity crisis. He will be joined on screen by Noomi Rapace (“Girl with the Tattoo”, “Prometheus”) and Reika Kirishima (“Drive My Car”, “Norwegian Wood”).

Agnieszka Smoczyńska is one of the most original directors of contemporary European cinema. “Hot Spot” will be another result of the collaboration of her unbridled imagination with Robert Bolesta's unique talent for telling original stories. His scripts, such as “The Last Family” or “Daughters of Dancing”, are among the most expressive phenomena in the panorama of contemporary Polish cinema.

“Hot Spot”, despite its international character, was mostly created thanks to the work of recognized specialists of the Polish film industry, who were responsible for key production divisions. The cinematographer is a longtime collaborator of the director Jakub Kijowski, editing — Beata Liszewska, sound — Marcin Lenarczyk. The music was composed by Marcin Macuk and Zuzanna Wrońska. Special effects were created in Poland under the supervision of Szymon Kani from PFX. Anna Anosowicz and Katarzyna Lewińska, authors of the scenography and costumes, are also responsible for the visual layer of the film.

The world premiere of “Hot Spot” took place at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada, where the film won a Special Jury Award. Organized since 1996 in Montreal, the festival is one of the most important and prestigious events in the world dedicated to genre cinema, with a special focus on horror, science fiction and fantasy. It was here that Bong Joon-ho, Guillermo del Toro and Park Chan-wook presented their films, among others.

In Poland, “Hot Spot” first visited the New Horizons International Film Festival and the Dwa Brzegi Film and Art Festival, and will then be presented in the Main Competition of the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, to be widely distributed on September 25.
