What is it like to be new somewhere and have no idea what to expect? “Startlevel” is an interactive theatre game about arriving in new worlds.

That feeling of being new. Everyone is staring at me. What do I actually have to do here? And then the question: “Are you new here?” Aaaahhh. Yes!

What happens when you're somewhere for the first time and don't know how everything works? First day at the museum. First day at work. The first day in a world whose rules everyone else seems to already know.

Where do I have to go? What am I allowed to touch? Who can I ask? When do I have to pretend to know? And how do I actually know that I've arrived?

Together with the 7th grade students from the Hector Peterson School, machina eX creates an interactive theatre game about arriving in new worlds. Finding and inventing rules and playing with experiences and expectations. The players become newcomers in a world unknown to them, in which they try to find out as inconspicuously as possible how everything actually works here.
