Who owns the stage? The participatory dance piece “Ich kann's nicht lassen” is Janne Gregor's answer to this question. This is where participation becomes a design principle. The audience determines how the piece goes: children and adults are on stage with four professional KRUMP dancers and discover Krump's dance style together. Together, they embark on a choreographic game.
Krump emerged as an Afro-diasporic dance culture on the streets of L.A. and is based on a rebellion against social inequality and discrimination. The Krump community stands for community: It's about showing yourself and supporting each other. “Ich kann's nicht lassen” breaks down the usual hierarchies between audience and dancers and makes choreography a lively, democratic process. Dance becomes a means of communication and every performance becomes a unique experience.
