I'm dying. Are you coming?
D 2024, R: Benjamin Kramme with Jennifer Sabel, Barbara Philipp, Hildegard Schrödter, 99 min, World Hospice Day
“I'm dying. Are you coming? “Takes an unusual look at dying, talks about the challenges of the last days of life, about saying goodbye, the fear of death, but also about the humor that life keeps until the end and the realisation that life often comes to an unfinished end.
Nadine, a young mother, is suffering from terminal cancer. She says goodbye to her home, her previous life and does not voluntarily move into a hospice.
Because her mother Renate, herself overwhelmed by the situation of having to accompany her own child on this last stage of the journey, is trying to take over the organization, also in order to escape grief by acting.
Angry about the situation imposed on her, Nadine sits in her hospice room and longs for her apartment and her six-year-old son Dexter.
Over the course of the film, she slowly accepts her new, last home, in which a last residential community gathers. Little by little, she comes into contact with the other roommates of the hospice and begins to deal with her own and the others' situation — angry and aggressive, sensitive and rough, cheerful and sad. She finds a girlfriend in Marion, a fun-loving woman who doesn't want to let dying get her down.
And Dexter? He deals with the death and death of his mother in his own way. In the end, he does homework in the cemetery and places Nadine himself painted pictures in front of the tombstone that says: “Anyone reading this need not be afraid of anything. ”
I'm dying. Are you coming? is looking for a sensitive and powerful way to deal with the issue of death and dying. Hospices are a lively place. They are about life, which can find its final phase as painlessly and with dignity as possible. Death and dying are not sacrilege that is not talked about here, but a joint attempt is made to deal with the topic of “death” in a relaxed and as safe as possible.
