Independence can be celebrated without pathos — together, on the move and without a score. The musicians of La Nòvia and the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra will form one acoustic orchestra, which will cross Grodzka Street to the Main Market Square.
A public holiday is a public ritual, but its form does not have to be fixed once and for all. Publicly funded culture often shies away from politics and socially important topics. We see in it above all a space of dialogue, in which artistic independence can lead to a meeting, not a clash of ideas. Therefore, in the celebration of November 11, we include improvisation, openness and the possibility of free joining. We do not agree to devote this holiday exclusively to official and national initiatives. It is also our independence — understood as communality, the right to vote, self-determination and freedom that respects the freedom of others. In art, it means author's statement, lack of censorship, experiment and finally — improvisation.
Last year's March showed that this openness is not just a declaration. Alponom musicians with alpine horns spontaneously joined the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra heading towards the Market Square. The unplanned meeting expanded both the composition of the orchestra and the composition being created live.
In the second edition, we include a similar meeting in the structure of the event. KIO will join forces with the French collective La Nòvia, residents of this year's edition of Sacrum Profanum. Bagpipes, crank lyre, banjo and violin will meet wind instruments, guitar, bass and drums. All the musicians will improvise together, walking from Father Adam Studziński Square along Grodzka Street to the Main Market Square and stopping along the way for several longer musical meetings.
You can march with them, watch from the side, join at any time, or just as freely leave. Independent music does not need one melody or one voice. It arises from the meeting.
