The national opera Kosciuszko on the Seine by F.S. Dutkiewicz to the words of K. Majeranowski from 1821 is proof of the vividness of the legend of Kościuszko and the patriotic mood of the beginning of the 19th century. It is also a piece that hides riddles and secrets. The largest was solved by researchers from the Raczyński Library together with Mariusz Matuszewski, who pre-orchestrated the score for performance in the Library. It turned out that the opera number 5 was a score by Mazurk Dąbrowski — from the first to the last bar — with words integrated into the melody, albeit different from those of Józef Wybicki. According to Dr. Magdalena Komosa from the Department of Special Collections, “this proves the complex history of our anthem from the time when this song, spread across Europe by the mouths of Polish legionaries, until the outbreak of the November uprising, was a living song, played and sung almost everywhere”.
