About the event
Max likes to read for life. He has now been captured by a book that was written over 150 years ago: Around the World by Jules Verne in 80 days. Not even his girlfriend Josi can stop Max from reading, although she thinks he can't always hide into his own world in the attic; after all, reality is exciting enough, he should come to the important demo with her! Max, however, immerses himself in his book so much that the characters from it suddenly come to life and he himself takes on a central role in the story: Phileas Fogg, the eccentric English gentleman, makes Max his servant. Fogg has bet half of his fortune on being able to circumnavigate the world in 80 days; which of course is no longer a problem today was a real challenge 150 years ago. And so Max, who is now called Passepartout, experiences an adventurous journey into the past together with Fogg — and to the Egyptian pyramids, to India, Hong Kong and finally to America, sometimes by train, sometimes by ship, sometimes riding elephants... They are followed by detective Fix, who thinks Fogg is a wanted bank robber and is hot on his heels. But fortunately, Fogg has active support not only from Max alias Passepartetout, but also from Aouda, who is very clever and at the same time ensures that the always cool and controlled Fogg suddenly shows feelings... The English composer Jonathan Dove was inspired by this world-famous, multi-filmed material to create world-wide music. The libretto was written by Peter Lund, who also directed it. The result is a fast-paced family opera that looks at a fascinating story with a new, tongue-in-cheek look at a fascinating story. With this production, we are pleased to once again present a family opera on the big stage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
