In Gowan Ring is a peculiarly American folk project led by multi-instrumentalist B'ee, whose music moves in a field between psychedelic folk, medieval traditions and an almost spiritual minimalism. The project works with what they themselves call “symbolist folk”, where hand-built instruments and the human voice create narratives about nature, myths and the metaphysical.
The music draws on classic folk and psychedelic references such as the Incredible String Band and Nick Drake, but at the same time integrates elements from early European music, troubadour and memory singer traditions, and mystical poetry. The result is a sound universe characterized by special harmonies and a dreamy, almost ritualistic mood in which the earthly and the transcendent intertwine.
Since the 1990s, In Gowan Ring has released an extensive discography and performed internationally, often as an open collective around B'ee's vision. The music revolves around inner landscapes, remembrance and the symbolism of nature, giving it a timeless and almost mythological character.
The latest single, “The Wondrous Stubborn Lyre,” builds on a Taoist tale from Kakuzo Okakura's The Book of Tea. The story is about an instrument that can only be brought to life through empathy rather than control — a point that mirrors B'ee's artistic approach, where sound arises in the interaction of man, nature and narrative.
