August Strindberg — genius or madman? Or maybe both?

For more than one hundred and thirty years, researchers, readers and viewers around the world have been asking themselves what the father of modern theater, the author of “Miss Julie”, “Dream Games” and “Sonatas of Spectres”, really experienced at the turn of the 20th century.

Did the Swedish writer really debunk existing chemistry and physics — or did he just burn his hands, and behind the results of his research are a lack of precise apparatus and contaminated research material?

Was the “infernal period” about falling deeper and deeper into schizophrenia—or was it rather a preparation for religious revelation?

Or maybe none of these things — maybe the scandalous writer tried so desperately to remind European audiences of himself that he finally got lost in his own lies?

The show does not answer any of the above questions — but it creates a space where we can all reflect on the place of science, religion, ambition and love in our daily lives.

“Inferno” allows us to look at one of the most interesting figures of the world theater at the most critical moment of his life - perhaps, seeing how August Strindberg coped with his inner demons 130 years ago, we will find the strength to fight the demons that haunt our crazy times.
