What happens to a recipe when it travels across borders and generations?
Join culinary pastry chef and artist Leila Tang and British-Vietnamese writer Tiên for a hands-on cooking and storytelling workshop exploring food, migration, memory and cultural identity.
Together, we’ll prepare and share a Vietnamese-inspired ‘afternoon tea’, bringing Chinese and Vietnamese food traditions into conversation with French pastry techniques and British baking. Through a selection of savoury and sweet dishes, we’ll explore the stories behind inherited recipes and the ways they are adapted, reinvented and reimagined over time.
As we cook and eat together, Leila and Tiên will invite us to reflect on what we inherit, what we change and what we choose to carry forward. We’ll explore questions of authenticity and belonging, and consider who gets to decide what is ‘traditional’ or ‘authentic’ when food and culture are constantly evolving.
This workshop is part of Museum of the Home’s ESEA Programme, and is open to everyone. Suitable for ages 16+.
