How to help a child learn without learning for them? How to distinguish lack of organization from overload, and simple forgetfulness from a signal that the way of learning simply does not work?

During the workshop, parents will learn about the most important mechanisms behind the child's daily learning. We will look at how a child works with information, memory, attention and time, and what an adult can do to strengthen his independence instead of taking control of his learning.

We are not going to look for ways to “watch the lesson”. Rather, we will look for an answer to the question: how to create conditions for the child in which he will gradually learn to master school on his own?

Thu. I. How does the child understand the content?

During the class:

We will look at what it actually means to “read with understanding” a textbook and why just reading the text repeatedly does not always lead to its memorization.

We'll see how an active note differs from rewriting, and how selecting, shortening, and transforming information support understanding of the material.

We will examine what colors, markers, symbols and pictograms are for a child — and when they are a real tool for organizing information, and when they are just a decoration for a notebook.

We will consider how to talk with the child about what he is learning to help him organize knowledge, but not to do this work for them.

Participants bring with them a textbook with subjects: a/ favorite (by the child), b/ least favorite (by the child)

Leading:

Dorota Popowska — pedagogue, methodologist, manager for the education system. Trainer of the Destination Imagination program and the author's Creative Thinking Training “CREATOR, or gateway to imagination”. Over the years she has also been associated with educational projects for children and young people, including the Children's Economic University, the Young Economist Academy and Short Attractive Engaging Workshops (KAWA). She has been working for home education for 4 years.
