The Good Death Institute: Grief — How to Support Yourself and Others Wisely and Mindfully

November 13, 2026, 6:00 p.m.

Ludwik Zamenhof Centre (Bialystok Cultural Centre), 19 Warszawska Street

free admission

We also invite you to a workshop with the Good Death Institute, during which the experience of bereavement will be discussed in a broad context.

Each of us experiences grief and sooner or later becomes a support for those who are experiencing it. Even so, grief is often misunderstood — both by ourselves and by those around us — and the help offered turns out to be insufficient. Instead of accepting it as a deep, human experience, we treat it as a problem to be solved, which leads to perpetuating misconceptions about how people should (or shouldn't) experience loss.

Grief is a natural response to loss, although it requires mindfulness and proper understanding. Even though it may seem uncomfortable and difficult to accompany someone in grief, there are universal ways and small acts of kindness that can make bereaved people feel less alone and more understood and noticed.

Therefore, we invite you to a meeting where we will look at the psychology of grief and how to show support and understanding. The meeting is aimed at all those who would like to expand their knowledge about experiencing loss.

The experience of bereavement will be discussed during the meeting in a broad context, including the loss of loved ones and animals, as well as other difficult experiences associated with the loss and the end. Participants will expand their knowledge of the psychology of grief, learn how to support people who are grieving wisely and affectionately and learn about the factors that influence their experience.
