Interdisciplinary Research Seminar. Global Socialism, Space and Architecture

All those whose research interests include socialist internationalism and the relationship between the Cold War and the decolonization of the African continent are invited to participate in the seminar.

Starting points for the seminar will be the exhibition Black Roads Enter White Land and the book The Gift. Spaces of Global Socialism and Their Afterlives edited by Łukasz Stank. The aim of the meeting will be to examine the exchange and cooperation — often unequal — between socialist states and independent African countries. We will attempt to answer the question of how the politics of the Cold War, the political economy of socialism, and the racialized notions of the Other affected the production and reproduction of space. The seminar will be an opportunity to meet and exchange different perspectives related to the subject of modernization through space and architecture.
