The world is divided, we hear that every day: in We and Die, in here and over, in banks, between which there are hardly any bridges left. But if you take a closer look, you'll find that “divided” doesn't just have to mean “separated.” At a time when demarcation is sold to us as a solution and wars place entire regions in endless limbo, the 42nd edition of the INTERFILM Festival invites us to read the border differently: as a divided coast, as a place of crossings, departures and encounters.
Under the title _Shared Shores_, we leave one-sidedness behind us, venture to the other side and take it at our word: Sharing can separate, and sharing can connect. Perhaps this is precisely where his strength lies, because anyone who shares acknowledges that there is more than one side.
Our programs follow the tides of resistance and memory. They tell of those who are pushed to the sidelines and dare to look beyond him from there. How does solidarity between alienated places and people grow? And how do we find connection not in spite of, but because of, our diversity?
INTERFILM's short films are more than art; they are an invitation to endure ambivalences and contradictions. Let us look beyond our own shore to see that every coast has its own horizon and meet where the dividing ends and the unifying begins!
