Interrobang

How is the hidden logic of artificial intelligence systems changing our world? Interrobang makes the audience part of a learning system themselves: As a “token,” participants influence a human-machine AI through movements and answers. Play the system before it plays you!

Interrobang is known for its participatory formats that playfully explore digital technology in theatre. The Berlin group is now hacking the theatre black box to shed light on the darkness of AI black boxes. Together with the audience, Interrobang is building a human-machine AI that can only be found in theaters. In return, the participants themselves become “tokens”: the small building blocks with which AI systems calculate. A learning system is created through movements, responses and positioning in space. Come into Interrobang's black box and see how machine logic connects, isolates, or transforms us.

At the beginning of the performance, viewers can opt for a black box (AI or theatre black box); in the AI black box, viewers become part of the performance. The audience on both sides will communicate with an AI via mobile devices and will be prompted by it to take certain actions in the auditorium and, if necessary, on stage.

There are moments of complete darkness. Fog is set in.

This production includes AI-generated video and image content as well as synthetically generated voices. There are scenes with audience interaction, in which photos or videos of the audience are taken, projected and modified by an AI. To avoid this, the person in question can select the “theatre black box” at the start of the performance.

All personal data is stored on a server located in Germany during the presentation and deleted after the performance. This server is subject to the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG).
