Isaiah Collier plays Coltrane

Although he has collaborated with a variety of artists, it is his original projects that have brought him international recognition. The breakthrough moment turned out to be the album Cosmic Transitions recorded with the band The Chosen Few. The album earned five stars from DownBeat magazine and was included in numerous lists of the best albums of the year. Remarkably, the footage was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's legendary studio on the exact day of John Coltrane's birthday, using part of the same analog equipment on which the historic A Love Supreme was made.

However, “Collier Plays Coltrane” is not an attempt at reconstruction or a nostalgic look into the past. It is a lively, energetic encounter with Coltrane's ideas: his spirituality, his quest for freedom and his belief that music can be a force for transformation. Collier draws inspiration from the spiritual jazz tradition, but takes it as a starting point for his own exploration, creating a language deeply rooted in history yet uncompromisingly contemporary.
