The Microbes That Changed the World — What the Ancient Romans Ate — Blackout! What will happen when Europe dies?

We invite all science enthusiasts to the EC1 Science and Technology Centre in Łódź on Friday evening, October 9th. The Łódź Scientists' Night, which will take place from 18:00 to 22:30, will allow you to discover the fascinating world of scientific discoveries in an accessible and engaging way! Workshops, demonstrations, laboratory experiences, inspiring lectures and conversations with researchers will be waiting for you.

For the fourth time, the community of the University of Lodz is participating in this unique event, which allows us to learn the rules of the world around us using reliable research methods. We understand that science is not only present within the walls of universities, but also in public spaces — where people meet, talk and seek answers to important questions.

This year our university is represented by representatives from almost all faculties and units of the University such as: Biology and Environmental Protection, Economic and Sociological, Physics and Applied Informatics, International and Political Studies, Management, Philology, Philosophical and Historical, Educational Sciences, Geographical Sciences, Law and Administration, Chemistry as well as students from Interdepartmental Circle of Science Popularizers of the University of Lodz and high school students awarded in the project Laboratory of Innovation of the University of Łódź.

The EC1 Science and Technology Centre opens all its doors! Look for us in different places, on all floors and at different times, you will find more than 50 different proposals prepared by the UŁ community!

“Tomorrow You. Towards Transhumanism”

The University of Lodz, being a classical university, will ensure that the science festival, which is the Night of the Scientists, does not lack humanistic content, close to every person. In a special way, we invite you to two panel discussions that accompany the exhibition “Tomorrow You. Toward transhumanism.”

The first discussion will be “Transhumanism — who do we become?” The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Magdalena Kosiada-Sylburska, head of CNit EC1, and the speakers will be: Dr. Krzysztof Pabis, Prof. UŁ, Vice-Rector for Popularization of Science and Education; Tomasz Sieczkowski, Prof.

Is transhumanism a distant vision of the future, or rather a reality in which we already live? How does our understanding of man change when technology begins to modify not only the body, but also emotions, morals and social roles? Together with the experts, we will reflect on the direction of the changes taking place and their significance for modern society. We will talk about the opportunities, challenges and consequences of technological development, as well as how it can affect the future of man and subsequent generations.

The theme of the discussion is connected with the exhibition “Tomorrow You. Towards Transhumanism”, realized as part of a scientific-artistic project implemented by the University of Lodz and the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź.

The second of the proposals to better understand the message of the exhibition will be a conversation entitled “On loneliness and relationships in the age of artificial intelligence”. How does artificial intelligence affect our relationships with others? Can the development of new technologies help us cope with an increasing sense of loneliness? What does the way we use AI say about ourselves? We invite you to talk about the impact of artificial intelligence on our daily lives, emotions and relationships and how to find oneself in a world where technology is becoming an increasingly important part of it.The interlocutors will beDr Marta Kucharska-Hauk, Dr Julita Czernecka and experts from the Faculty of Management of the University of Warsaw University.

This evening, the Science Meetings will also propose:

Lodz University of Technology,

Medical University of Lodz,

M. Skłodowska-Curie National Institute of Oncology, Gliwice,

Center for Molecular and Macromolecular Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences,

Institute of the Polish Mother Health Center.
