A temporary society allows itself to be imperfect for one evening: Inspired by the music of the “Waltz King,” “DI/Strauss Technique” unfolds as a communal ritual of joy and irreverence that combines queer humor with operetta kitsch and campy catharsis.

Choreographer, singer-songwriter, performance artist and provocateur Ivo Dimchev has been delighting HAU visitors for many years. In his performances, he cleverly combines high and subculture, pop and Balkan rhythms. Yet he never simply puts himself on stage — time and again he challenges his reclining audience. This is also the case in “DI/Strauss Technique”: Dimchev transforms the intoxicating potential of Johann Strauss's music into a humorous, playful group choreography with the audience. In the dancing-singing crowd, he places topics such as self-love, financial worries, sexual self-determination or emotional overload in order to immediately react artistically even in divine absurdity.
