“Iwona, Princess of Burgundy”... A mysterious title, especially since this Iwona is not really a princess, although the thing happens at the royal court. Even on the contrary, she is an ordinary girl, withdrawn and talkative, with whom the inhabitants of the court, outspoken and shrewd, have trouble. Her annoying debauchery belies the stately tinsel of the manor. Over time, it turns out that the mystery of the girl more and more clearly exposes the shameful secrets of the bright state... It is necessary to do something with this strange maiden, because the manor is falling apart before our eyes...
“Iwona”, written even before the war, is the first of three famous plays by Witold Gombrowicz, which is still wonderfully current today. There are so many deceitful manors in our world that sometimes just Iwona is enough to be able to say without words that the king is naked.
The director is the queen of this profession Anna Augustynowicz, in the royal cast, among others Maria Ciunelis, Przemysław Bluszcz, Adam Cywka, Maciej Musiałowski. In the title role Karolina Charkiewicz.
