89 mm from Europe (1993)

Oscar-nominated, award-winning film by Marcel Łoziński. The eponymous eighty-nine millimeters is the difference between the width of the tracks in Europe and those in the former USSR. Brest - the border between Poland and the former Soviet Union. This is where the European railways end, they continue to run wider. In order for several dozen international trains to pass through this place every day, Belarusian workers have to replace several thousand wheels under the wagons every day. Marcel Łoziński in this short, perfectly filmed and edited black and white documentary shows very subtly that these millimeters mark the border of two worlds.
