Great songs are not a thing of the past. They are among those who can tell them anew.

About the event

Great songs are not a thing of the past. They are among those who can tell them anew.

Janusz Radek's “Serwus Madonna” is a meeting with the extraordinary world of Polish poetic song, the work of outstanding composers associated with Krakow's Piwnica pod Baranami and works known, among others, from the legendary interpretations of Ewa Demarczyk and Halina Wyroda.

The repertoire of the recital included compositions by Zygmunt Koniecki, Andrzej Zarycki, Andrzej Nowak and Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. It is a music in which poetry meets theatrical expression, and the word has as much power as sound.

Janusz Radek does not try to recreate past performances or compete with their legend. He reaches for these songs with his own sensitivity, extraordinary vocal freedom and his characteristic ability to build emotions. Once it is subtle and almost intimate, other times dramatic, perverse, full of temperament.

It is a story of love, longing, passion, transience and all those emotions that remain unchanged, regardless of the era.

For years, the program has occupied a special place in the artistic output of Janusz Radek. In 2004, he received a television production entitled “The Golden Sky Will Open You”, followed by the release of a studio album, which brought the artist two nominations for Fryderyk. The recital has been presented on stages throughout Poland more than 300 times, winning the recognition of the audience and critics.

“Serwus Madonna” is a concert in which the history of Polish song does not become a museum exhibit. It remains alive, moving and surprisingly current.
