Jason and the Golden Fleece

Follow the legendary hero Jason of Greek mythology and his Argonauts as they set out in search of the Golden Skin, whose magical powers may help Jason reclaim his father's lost kingdom. Along the way, they encounter a number of mythology's most iconic creatures, including the fearsome bronze man Talos and the seven-headed Hydra.

But 'Jason and the Golden Sheet' is at least as famous for Ray Harryhausen's groundbreaking stop-motion animation. His amazing creatures were created picture by picture and acquired an almost physical presence that still fascinates. Most legendary is Jason's fencing match against seven living skeletons -- a scene that is both eerie, humorous and expertly choreographed.

The film has since gained the status of a cult classic and has had great significance for generations of filmmakers. Among its admirers is Christopher Nolan, who has highlighted Harryhausen's work as a crucial inspiration. Harryhausen's hand-crafted illusions show how imaginative ideas and cinematic craft can create something that still feels magical decades later. Jason and the Golden Skin is therefore both a piece of film history and a testament to how one artist's vision can leave lasting marks in the evolution of film.
