JAZZ IN POLISH: Meeting by Chance

Meeting By Chance is a solo project by Marcin Cichy, co-founder of the duo Skalpel. While Scalpel became famous for processing jazz samples, here the artist turns to ambient, IDM and classical electronics. Cichy is also an acclaimed producer, known for his collaboration with Lil Peep on the EP “Changes”.

The album “Time Deception” combines inspirations from ambient, 80s electronics, IDM and dub techno to create a coherent story about time, memory and perception. Looped sequences, emerging and disappearing rhythms and spatial melodies create an atmosphere reminiscent of the works of Vangelis, Brian Eno or Ryūichi Sakamoto.

The album's character is well captured by the single “Too Far”, in which piano, vocal samples, ambient textures and pulsating bass create an organic, intimate sound. Special attention is drawn to the lively, dynamic drums, giving the music a special depth.

The name of the project refers to the series of photographs by Duane Michals “Meeting By Chance”, which tells about chance, lost moments and late recognition. Similarly, the album takes the listener away from darker, dub landscapes to more luminous tracks such as “Eden” and “View”.

“Time Deception” is a deeply electronic and at the same time very human album in which technology becomes a medium for emotions, memory and the experience of time.
