pl. Wojciecha Kilara 1, Katowice

Whether he plays Bach, Kurpi folklore, or the music of the Jewish diaspora from different parts of the world — Roginski always remains himself. That doesn't mean it doesn't matter what the guitarist takes to the workshop — because it matters a lot. In this case, the artist takes John Coltrane's compositions out of the jazz convention, an act of great courage, however, it allows to save Coltrane's spirit. Because Trane's muscular, demanding music often turns into a discipline of sport and chordal hurdles in subsequent new interpretations. Roginski refuses to participate in this race, he does not want to be a harmonious athlete. There are too many literal versions. Roginski treats Coltrane's classic works — Equinox or Lonnie's Lament — with respect and love for the original, although he changes them almost beyond recognition. More than half a century after they were written, the Polish guitarist saw something in them that even Coltrane himself could not hear in the 1960s.
