About the event

We have an evening of modern American jazz performed by one of the most important trumpeters of our time. The Blue Note stage will feature Jeremy Pelt. Artist recognized by the Jazz Journalists Association as “Trumpeter of the Year” and multiple winner of prestigious DownBeat magazine plebiscites.

His international career took off in 1998, when, just after graduating from Berklee College of Music, he moved to New York and joined the legendary Mingus Big Band, quickly gaining recognition from the local community.

He often performs alongside acclaimed bands such as The Village Vanguard Orchestra and Duke Ellington Big Band, and is also a member of the Lewis Nash Septet and The Cannonball Adderley Legacy with guest guest Louis Hayes. As a leader, Pelt recorded ten records, toured around the world with his own various bands, appearing at many festivals and jazz stages.

The concert will take listeners into the atmosphere of Manhattan's iconic jazz venues. Pelt is known for its deep, warm sound and skillful balancing between intimate ballads and dynamic post-bop. On stage, the musician avoids routine, betting on technical maturity and a strong, improvised dialogue with the accompanying band. His track record includes more than a dozen original albums and collaborations with genre icons such as Ravi Coltrane, Jimmy Heath and Duke Ellington Big Band.

In addition to concert activities, Pelt also realizes himself as an anthropologist and music documentarian. He is the author of a series of books, “Griot: Portraits sessions,” featuring personal interviews with several generations of black jazzmen. The title term “Griot” alludes to West African memory keepers and storytellers, which also translates into Pelt's own work, giving his concert compositions a unique, narrative and historical dimension.
