The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to creative family workshops entitled “There are so many of us here”, which accompany the exhibition “Edward Dwurnik. Pride and shame.”
In his work, Edward Dwurnik usually portrayed people as part of a larger whole. This can be seen in the 1974 work “Bus Stop”, which shows a group of people. Together they wait for the bus. Each is different, but together they create a distinctive picture of everyday life and the urban community. During the workshop, we will reflect on what makes several people a community and think about the role that a “collective portrait” can play — an image that represents many people at the same time instead of the individual.
What are we gonna do?
The tasks at the exhibition will be based on the exercise of mindfulness. We will count the characters in the selected paintings and look for similarities and differences between them. In the second part of the meeting, we will try to create a collective portrait of our workshop group. We will look for inspiration in the unique artistic practice of Dwurnik himself, in which this creator went beyond the flat image and began to create three-dimensional heads!
