On October 19, we invite you to “Jezebel” (1938) by William Wyler - a classic melodrama with Bette Davis awarded an Oscar for this role.
If you have Izabela Łęcek in your head after “Doll”, it is worth taking a look at Julie Marsden. Both come from a world where a woman's position is determined by birth, money, reputation and conventions. Julie, like Łęcka, however, is not a heroine who easily fits into the designated framework.
“Jezebel” interestingly shows the tension between her temperament and the rules that govern New Orleans society, and here Bette Davis is given the space to create a character proud, ambiguous and far from the Hollywood ideal.
Film description:
New Orleans, 1850s. Julie Marsden lives a life among a wealthy New Orleans socialite. Her relationship with Preston Dillarde is put to the test when differences in their characters and expectations begin to come to the fore.

If you have Izabela Łęcek in your head after “Doll”, it is worth taking a look at Julie Marsden. Both grow out of a world in which the position of a woman is determined by birth, wealth and conventions, but neither of them fits easily within the imposed framework.
It is worth seeing how Bette Davis plays this rebellious heroine and what William Wyler does with the story.
