John Porter, one of the most respected rock musicians in Poland, will return to the Stodoła Club on November 12, 2026 with the iconic material from the album “Helicopters”!
After the great success of the Helicopters'45 tour and the instantly sold out concert in Stodola, John Porter will be back on the stage of the Warsaw club. The audience will be able to immerse themselves once again in the unique sound of “Helicopters”, an album that 45 years after its release still sounds fresh, energetic and characteristic Porter's style. Tickets are on sale now!
Rock in Poland had many important moments, but “Helicopters” was the one that opened the door wide. In 1980, the album fell like a fresh draft: English-language lyrics, new-wave energy, a section like a razor (musicians of Nurt and Conspiracy), and in the center John Porter, a Welshman who found his own chord of rebellion in Poland. This album didn't ask for a seat at the table — it took it.
In 2025, he returned not as a souvenir, but as a living organism. The new edition of “Helicopters” has been remastered for the first time from the original tapes (in collaboration with Radio Opole, mastering: Robert Szydło) and it sounds as if someone has removed the dust of decades from it: guitars push the air, the bass pulsates, and Porter's voice again has that spark “now”. Bonuses include singles from 1980 and unique live recordings from Jarocin '80. In addition, a booklet with a sketch about the album and photos by Mirosław R. Makowski. It's not a museum; it's an engine restart.
During the November concert at the Stodoła Club we will hear songs from the cult album “Helicopters” — this is a great opportunity to rediscover the magic of Porter's music and share this moment with other lovers of his work. The album “Helicopters” is considered the foundation of Polish rock of the 80s.
The composition of the team:
John Porter — vocals, guitars

Jacek Szafraniec — bass
Robert Rasz — drums
Kuba Sosulski — sound engineer

John Porter — rocker, artist, poet
Polish-British musician, born in 1950, and since 1976 he has lived in Poland. He performed solo and collaborated with many other artists (including Kora and Marek Jackowski, Anita Lipnicka, Wojtek Mazolewski, Adam Nergal Darski).
The beginning of his career was mainly cooperation with Kora and Marek Jackowski, with whom he co-created the trio “Maanam - Electric Shower”, where he played acoustic guitar. Three years later, the artist founded his own formation, which he called the “Porter Band”.
In the same year, in just four days, the group recorded their debut, legendary album, entitled “Helicopters”. The album was awarded the title of “Album of the Year” in the rock category. Another significant, albeit brief, chapter in John's work was the project “China Disco”, which resulted in an album of the same name.
An important artistic stage was the collaboration with Anita Lipnicka. Recorded in 2002, the song “For You” sung together with Anita turned out to be another turning point in John's career.
A year later, the album “Indecent Songs” was released, which was enthusiastically received by both fans and critics. The album reached the status of “Platinum Disc” and received Fryderyk. They also recorded “Inside Story”, “Other Stories” and “Goodbye”.
In 2005, John Porter was awarded the Medal of Merit to Culture Gloria Artis.
The last album is “On The Wrong Planet” by the duo PORTER/KARCZEWSKA (June 16, 2023). The album was awarded the Fryderyk statuette, for the authenticity and emotional power of the blues, in the Blues Album of the Year category.
The year 2025 was the year of the jubilee of John Porter's artistic work, on this occasion a concert of the 45th anniversary of the album “Helicopters”, considered to be the foundations of Polish rock to this day, was prepared. The premiere of the material was presented as part of the Men's Play tour in Żywiec on June 27.
