Liminal Tour
Joep Beving - one of the most recognized and characteristic figures of contemporary pianism at a concert in Gdańsk! The tall, bearded Dutchman associated with the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label will perform in Stary Manezh on March 4.
Beving, together with artists such as Olafur Arnalds, Hania Rani, Max Richter and Nils Frahm, recalled the great tradition of piano music in a contemporary context, reaching new listeners. Of his music, he says: “This is my silent rebellion against madness.” His success has brought him such albums as “Solipsi8sm”, “Prehension”, “Henosis” or “Trilogy” and his music has been listened to millions of times on streaming services. In Poland, apart from the classical repertoire, he will present material from his latest album “Liminal”, released as usual by Deutsche Grammophon.
Inspired by Guillaume Logé's book Wild Renaissance, the album was created in response to growing uncertainty and the breakdown of old systems. Composed of 15 solo piano compositions, partly intertwined with electronics, the project takes the listener on an atmospheric journey between contemporary composition and introspective sound poetry. Music interweaves moments of precise, consciously shaped composition with passages in which sound develops organically, blurring the line between control and intuition.
“The album moves between two sides. Sometimes I try to shape and refine the sound to give it the purest form possible. Other times the music seems to flow by itself, changing, fading and returning to silence, as if it were being driven by something natural. It's less about structure and more about connection, resonance and change—closer to ecology than architecture,” says Beving.
