Josefine Stork comes to the Bremen Theater with “The Cycle Revolution”.
My name is Josefine and I am about to start a revolution. Yes you read that right -- a true cycle revolution. There is so much we don't know about our bodies and each other's bodies. No woman can do that alone. So join me as I venture out on the country road and invite you to a fun and shocking evening in the sign of the underbelly.
Since I had my first period, my inner, secret hormone machinery has just been doing its thing. And like many others, I was only a big teenager when I started on the small, practical birth control pill.
But when I stopped on the pill -- to get free of the many side effects -- I felt my body and its hormonal changes clearly for the first time. It was as if a fog lifted and it struck me:
I wonder what it really is that I've been turning off for all these years? And to think that both I and so many others have never received the instruction manual for our own body?
Since then, my body has revealed itself to me and I've learned things I never knew about myself. About the four phases of the cycle and about the hormones at play. About sex drive, shame and a contraceptive pressure that has shocking physical and mental consequences.
Today I feel stronger and wiser than ever. When I adjust my personal, work and social life according to my cycle, it almost turns into a superpower.
And that's the experience I'd like to share with you.
In my show, I want to make you much smarter about why some days you feel like Beyonce and others like a crumpled dishcloth.
And if you happen to be having such a dishcloth day, promise me you won't be too hard on yourself. For the whole society is arranged according to the male 24-hour cycle.
And what would happen if we instead adjusted ourselves more according to the menstrual cycle?
Would we see fewer burned-out women? Would we see a reduction in stress-sick women? I think so!
Although the French Revolution may have been something with pitchforks, torches and rolling heads, my revolution is not. Because if we want to change something big, we have to start small. In ourselves and in our own (during) life.
So take your daughter, mother, girlfriend, sister or better half (m/k) under your arm and let the hay thieves stay at home. I promise a fun, self-loving and shocking evening with the kind of revelations that are both to be laughed at and cried at.
And a nice place of honor in a revolution entirely without losers.
Viva la Revolution!
