Julia Jacklin's role models are Fiona Apple, Anna Calvi and Angel Olsen, and it's heard in the Australian singer and songwriter's poignant songs in the borderland between energized indie rock, organic folk and heartfelt singer/songwriter, which has secured her a dedicated international audience.
After growing up with Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne and Evanescence in heavy rotation on the home stereo, Julia Jacklin debuted in 2016 with “Don't Let the Kids Win” via the English indie label Transgressive. The album was praised by media outlets such as The Guardian, Mojo and Under The Radar and secured the Australian a status as one of the most exciting new indie names of the time.
In 2019, she followed up with panache with her second full-length “Crushing”, which impressed audiences and critics with her formidable mix of personal lyrics and powerful melodies on gripping tracks such as “Body” and “Don't Know How to Keep Loving You”. Later, “Pre Pleasure” followed, which received high praise from Paste Magazine, Pitchfork and Uncut, among others.
Julia Jacklin has recently embarked on a new chapter with the album “The Gem”, which she herself produced in collaboration with Robert Muinos. The album revolves around the tension between love and freedom, with the songs “Get Away From Me (I Think I'll Love You Soon)” and “I Wish” feat. The Maes.
Julia Jacklin has been a rare concert guest at home with concerts at Roskilde Festival in 2017 and in Lille Vega in 2019. GAFFA awarded the visit to Dyrskueplads with four stars, while Soundvenue awarded five stars for “a phenomenal and perfectly tuned concert”.
