Kaban Winner of the Competition — Krokus Jazz Festival

KABAN is a debut formation on the Polish music scene, which with courage and uncompromisingly blurs the boundaries between jazz imagination, rock dirt and blues sincerity. The history of the band begins in the corridors of the famous Faculty of Jazz and Entertainment Music of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice - it was there that a group of friends decided to turn their common passion into a project that throws off the academic corset from improvisation.

The quartet's work is dominated by two powerful elements: a thoughtful counterpoint and an infectious, motor groove. The band members consciously implement their boundless passion for the blues into their compositions. Musicians love to play with the texture of sound, creating balanced and at the same time non-obvious musical landscapes.

Their work is thoroughly conceptual and programmatic. The inspiration for the creation of sounds is life itself and its inherent absurdities - the band's music tells about paradoxes arising from seemingly trivial, everyday situations, the commonality of which resonates with the listeners, and which often cannot be clothed in simple words.

On stage, KABAN rejects all conservatism, betting on authenticity and charismatic energy. Their concerts are performances without a filter - this is a sincere, direct exchange of emotions with the audience. The band proves that music with jazz roots can captivate crowds with the sheer force and predation of a racial rock concert.

Kaban knows the rules of music, but he has enough courage to break them on his own terms.
