Capernaum

Capernaum dir. Nadine Labaki, Lebanon, USA, 2018

Fiction, Drama

Zain, a resident of Beirut's slums, is probably 12 years old. Probably because his parents do not have any documents to prove it, as with a bunch of their other children. Sentenced to 5 years in a correctional facility for stabbing a shopkeeper with a knife, a boy sues his parents for giving him his life. A life filled with misery, lack of love and violence.

A poignant story about a child who, in the urban jungle, tries to save even smaller and weaker than himself.

The film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

After the screening, we cordially invite you to a short lecture continuing the film series at the Grajfka Cinema — Faces of Asia.

The series was prepared with the aim of exploring Asian cinematography. The repertoire will include films of various genres — thrillers, dramas, anime... and many more! During our next meeting we will talk about the film achievements of Lebanon.
