KAFKA: [text breaks]

What Kafka do we need today? Perhaps one who, lying under the rubble, writes down with his free hand what he sees under them. Because he sees differently and more than others. “It is he,” we read in the Diaries, “who died while he was alive, and who actually remained alive.” In his observations we find, on the one hand, the feeling of being lost by someone who has lost his compass. On the other hand, the irrepressible cheerfulness of a man who knows that he has nothing left to lose. But there is something else there, in these notes from under the rubble: the absence of definitive endings. The creators of the show considered this lack not a failure, but an opportunity. After all, the phrase “[the text breaks]” also invites us to see traces of a small, ridiculous hope beneath the rubble of a crumbling world. The show consists of moving, lesser-known lyrics by Franz Kafka, whose 100th anniversary of death fell in 2024.
