At the beginning of the 21st century, we forgot a little about chamber and string orchestras — their repertoire was largely taken over by specialized ensembles of early or contemporary music. And yet the string orchestra has a very specific, warm sound, devoid of the sharpness typical of smaller ensembles. At the same time, it retains the character of chamber playing, which we will experience, for example, in the popular Concerto in D minor for two violins by Johann Sebastian Bach, but also in the Gran duo concertante by Giovanni Bottesini, with a peculiar virtuoso duo of solo violin and double bass.
Another “hit” is Gabriel Fauré's Elegy, in which we will hear another solo instrument: the cello. This piece will enter into dialogue with the mystery and sadness of Osvaldo Goliyov's composition, a Kabbalistic history of Judaism enchanted with sounds that, as the composer claims, “speak different languages.”
