Chamber music by the Konzerthausorchester

The Horenstein Ensemble, founded out of the Konzerthaus Orchestra almost 20 years ago, has since consisted of a rare line-up of string quartet, clarinet, flute and harp. Our Deputy Solo Cellist Andreas Timm is one of the five founding members and describes making music together:

“Especially in chamber music, something happens spontaneously that you can't even prepare in rehearsals: As a player, you suddenly feel the tension that spontaneously develops between the audience and the performers on stage. You can explore these moments of extreme intensity even more, make a piano even more delicate, give you even greater excitement... These are the moments when you can do magic as a chamber music ensemble. With very different line-ups, from duo or trio to quintet to septet, we can offer a wide range as an ensemble — an opportunity that musicians hardly have otherwise. As a result, the audience naturally experiences particularly exciting contrasts, which are based both in the different musical historical periods and in the acoustic diversity of the instruments. ”

Program: Germaine Tailleferre: Sonata for Harp; André Caplet: “Conte Fantastique” for Harp and String Quartet (based on the story “The Mask of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe); Carl Maria von Weber: Clarinet Quintet in B-flat major op. 34; Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Trepak, “Dance of the Sugar Fairy” and “Flower Waltz” from the ballet “The Nutcracker” op. 71, arranged for chamber ensemble by Felix Korinth
