ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Konrad Karol Pollesch — photographer, member of the Association of Polish Photographic Artists and the European Association of Pictorial Artists. He studied Polish philology at the Jagiellonian University. For more than 30 years he taught photography classes, among others at the Jagiellonian University and the Cracow University of Technology. In his work, he combines an interest in artistic photography with traditional methods of imaging, emphasizing the material and unique character of photography.
A special place in his activity is occupied by pictorialism and the search for an individual photographic language. He also specializes in old photographic techniques such as dichromate rubber and van Dyke bronze. He is the author of more than 60 solo exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has presented his work in the United States, Canada, France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Israel, among others. He is also the author of photographs of works of art published in the press and albums. His works are in museum collections in Poland and abroad, including the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography in New York, as well as in the National Museums in Krakow, Warsaw and Wrocław. His work is an important part of contemporary Polish artistic photography. In 2022 he received the Prize of the City of Krakow for his lifetime of work.
“I don't know if Kantor liked anyone but himself, but I have repeatedly noticed that he has an unwarranted affection for me. I'm probably the only photographer who has never had a brawl for which, as everyone knew, he was famous for. I am also the only photographer to whom he made an exhibition in his “temple” on Kanonicza Street, despite the fact that many photographers applied for it. For the exhibition he wrote a “manifesto” addressed to me, which only a few wrote to his closest friends: Maria Jarema, Jonasz Stern or Kazimierz Mikulski. Kantor, of course, knew that I had great respect for him and his art, which I had the opportunity to tell him many times at our meetings in the Noworolski café, on the Kraków Market Square, where he often invited me, leading wonderful monologues on the most varied topics related to art. I think I was very lucky to be able to meet him and take portraits and photographs of him during rehearsals and then at memorable performances.”
