Karolina Błachnia Quartet is a Polish quartet formed in Warsaw at the beginning of 2023, performing original music on the border of jazz and improvisation. The band's debut album “Wschód” was nominated for the Fryderyk 2026 Award in the category Phonographic Debut of the Year — Jazz. The album was created as part of the program “Jazz Debut Phonographic 2024”, organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance (NIMit). The quartet's music combines singing, composition and instrumental improvisation. Space plays an important role in it and the mutual reaction of the musicians — the compositions are a starting point that can lead in different directions during the concert. The band's leader, vocalist, composer and instrumentalist Karolina Błachnia uses both lyrics and wordless improvisation, creating music inspired by observation of the surrounding world and personal experiences.
The quartet won the Grand Prix of the JazzInspirations 2023 competition, received a distinction at the Blue Note Competition 2025 and was a finalist of the 60th Jazz on the Odra in Wrocław and the XXV Jazz Sax Club Review in Gdynia. The band was also invited to the Central European Jazz Showcase in Brno and to the Take-off concert program at Langnau Jazz Nights in Switzerland.
