After “Käsebier conquers Kurfürstendamm,” the unmistakable Katharina Thalbach reads and plays another dazzling novel from the Weimar Republic, whose theme is still relevant to every generation today. The focus is on Gilgi, a stubborn young woman who wants something from life. With confident wit, ingenuity and a big heart, she meets everyone and everything that gets in her way. Katharina Thalbach jumps into various roles, changes voices and lets the protagonist find her very own path to independence between social paternalism, economic and emotional dependencies. It is the story of one of those self-confident women who banned Keun's books by the Nazis in 1933. “A big one-woman show.” (Berliner Morgenpost)
