What do fashion, fetishes and art have in common? More than you might think.
Corsets, harnesses, leather, masks, high boots or body immobilizers have long inspired fashion designers, costume designers and visual artists. We will talk about how the aesthetics of fetishes and BDSM practices penetrated the world of fashion, art and pop culture and how the importance of these elements has changed throughout history. How do artists transform symbols of power and violence into a narrative of identity creation?
Zofia de Ines, the protagonist of our exhibition, draws inspiration from the broadly understood world of eroticism and fetishes. Her designs and costumes allow us to look at costume design as a tool for creating the body, desire and transgression.
We will talk about fashion, costume, corporeality and exceeding norms. About where the clothes end and the fetishes or costumes begin and why artists have been so eager to push this line for years.
Lecture designed for an adult audience.
