About the event

Enthusiastically received at Cannes, the directorial debut of actor Harris Dickinson (“Babygirl”, “In the Triangle”, soon to be John Lennon in Sam Mendes's super production about The Beatles) left the Côte d'Azur with the award for best actor and FIPRESCI distinction in the Un Certain Regard section.

The eponymous “Rogue”, bravely played by Frank Dillane, is a young Londoner fighting a daily struggle for survival. He spends his days on the street or in friends' apartments, constantly looking for even a makeshift shelter — a place where he can leave his belongings and feel safe for a while. When a stranger reaches out to him a helping hand, Mike decides to seize the opportunity.

Dickinson's character can be subtle and innocent, full of charm associated with boyish immaturity, to transform into a predator and manipulator in an instant. In the petite, thin character of Mike, the actor included childish anger, youthful carelessness and a huge hunger for closeness, but also aggression that erupts at the least expected moments. “Rogue” is a tribute to Mike Leigh's cinema, and also to classic British films from the sign of the “angry young” - a cinema in which tenderness and humor go hand in hand with careful observation and penetrating criticism of social relations.
