About the event

Klaps Cinema in Limanowa warmly invites you to the new film series “Cinema with history”, the aim of which is to return to the most important works of world cinema. As part of the series, films known, awarded and loved by viewers for years will be presented. This is a unique opportunity to see them again on the big screen, as well as to introduce the younger generation to the classics of cinema and its timeless values.

The next screening will take place on October 29 at 6 p.m. We will see a great work directed by Andrzej Wajda - the film “Promised Land”.

The film is an outstanding adaptation of Władysław Reymont's novel showing the growth of industrial Łódź. It was realized almost entirely in Łódź locations, including authentic palaces of manufacturers, such as the palace of Israel Poznański or the villa of Karol Scheibler, now the Museum of Cinematography. Andrzej Wajda occupies a special place in the work of Andrzej Wajda as an epic panorama of social relations at the end of the 19th century, which was awarded an Oscar nomination in the category of Best Foreign Language Film (1976). The film won numerous awards, including Golden Lions of Gdańsk (9175) along with prizes for Tadeusz Kosarewicz for scenography, Wojciech Kilar for music and Wojciech Pszoniak for best male role, and years later also Diamond Lions on the occasion of the 40th edition of the Festival of Polish Feature Films in Gdynia.

Karol Borowiecki (D. Olbrychski), a young engineer, employed in the large factory of the industrialist Bucholc in Łódź, dreams of starting his own. Together with two friends: Maks (A. Seweryn), the owner of the weaving mill, and Moryce (W. Pszoniak), an intermediary decides to take advantage of the confidential news about the planned increase in cotton prices, raise capital and set up a factory. The message is conveyed to him by his married lover, Lucy Zuckerowa (K. Jędrusik). Soon Karol's father, a landowner with Anka (A. Nehrebecka), Karol's fiancée, moves to Łódź. The affair with Zucker is causing him problems, as are the rising costs of the venture. He does not expect what resistance this will cause in the industrial community of Lodz and what personal price he will have to pay for it. It will be neither Anka nor Lucy, but Mada Muller (B. Dykiel), whose dowry will save him after a fire in an uninsured factory. He will still have to face the rebellious workers.

The film is also an opportunity to celebrate the currently celebrated Year of Andrzej Wajda, which is associated with the centenary of the birth (March 6, 1926) and the tenth anniversary of the death (October 9, 2016) of the outstanding director.

Cinema with History participants can bring with them the Cinema Classic Passport - a card on which they can collect stamps for participating in each screening of the series. The prize for collecting 10 stamps is a ticket to the cinema.

Before the screening, we also encourage you to visit the exhibition telling about the history of the film's creation.

Tickets for PLN 24 can be purchased at the cinema box office, ticket machine and online HERE. The holders of the Limanow City Resident Card, the National Senior Card and the Large Family Card are entitled to a discount.

This is a proposal for both cinema lovers and those who are just starting their adventure with film classics. We invite you to discover together the beauty hidden in everyday life.
