Kinski 100! : Woyzeck, Germany, 1979, directed by Werner Herzog with Klaus Kinski, Eva Mattes, Wolfgang Reichmann, 77 min
Every person is an abyss. It makes you dizzy when you look down. Franz Woyzeck is this personified abyss that Georg Büchner made a tragic figure in 1836 in one of the great classics of German literature. Author-filmmaker legend Werner Herzog was so fascinated by the literary work, which only survives as a drama fragment, that he took on the film implementation. His powerful, incredibly intense dramatic parable Woyzeck (1978) is very closely based on the original, is stylistically close to theatre and played fantastically by Herzog's alter ego Klaus Kinski and Eva Mattes in the leading roles.
